FCC-TV - I’m On After All

After my failed attempt to earn a spot on the board of the Falls Church Cable Access Corporation, I had an opportunity to throw my name in for one of the appointed spots.  I’m excited to say that the School Board selected me for their appointed position, effective at least through October, 2009.

My first meeting was last week (11/12).  It was a good chance to get a feel for how things have worked and will work.  Matt Smith, who was one of the newly elected members, clearly wants to make fast progress in some of the operational aspects of FCCTV (completing plans to improve the facilities, etc.) which I fully support.  Kathy Chandler, the School Board Liason, attended, as did Mayor Robin Gardner.

On the way out of the meeting we talked a bit about upgrading the FCCTV web site – an effort I hope to spearhead in the coming weeks and months.  My goal for the site would initially be to better explain the organization, the programming, and how it fits into the community — including how more residents can get involved.  In the long-run, I’d like it to be a platform for distributing a lot of the great content that’s traditionally been broadcast.

I’ll do my best to share my experiences and progress along the way.
